Holiday Types in Canada – Part 2

Following on from the first part of our blog to explore Canada and to experience its many different types of holidays and experiences it offers the visitor, we now look at Canadian Touring holidays and what is available to the more adventurous visitor.

Touring Canada can be done self-drive or by professional group tours. Not everyone likes to be guided around so select what type of tour you would like, say by rail, coach etc. Just map out where you want to go and then work out the best way of getting there.

Alaskan Rail Tour

Epic rail journeys are a classic way to tour a region or large area, and one of the very best ways to discover Alaska is by rail. The Alaskan railroad is famed in Canada for how luxurious the railcars are, with their splendid glass domes for optimum viewing. What better way to see the very best views of one of the great last frontiers, with its amazing scenery and diverse wildlife. As you pass through vast national parks you will cross great rivers and skirt looming mountains.

The two main routes to choose from cover Anchorage and also the Denali National Park and you can marvel at Mount Denali which is the highest mountain in North America. Alaskan railroads are classic and the rolling stock is designed to give the explorer the most luxurious and comfortable trip possible.

Small Ship Alaskan Cruises

Alaska is vast, the rivers, the seas, the landscape, everything about this snowy wilderness dwarf’s mankind. And one of the greatest ways of exploring this vast wilderness is by small boat cruising. Forget the large liners, high and mighty, taking a small boat will get you up close to raw nature and will give you a far more intimate experience. Admittedly facilities on a small boat can be limited but the other passengers have probably chosen this mode of transport for exactly the same reasons as you so the company on your trip should be ideal.

Another advantage of smaller ship cruises is that they can often access areas that larger vessels cannot go. This includes places like Misty Fjords National Monument or the stunning Tracy Arm fjord.

Motorhome Touring in Canada

What better way to explore the roads and scenery of Canada in your own mobile home. No need to check in and out of hotels, just drive at your own pace and stay where you park. There are many motorhomes available for rent and most of them come fully equipped with the latest gadgets and home comforts. Surprisingly these giant vehicles are fairly easy to drive with every electrical and mechanical gismo to aid the driver.

Most rental companies offer comprehensive convenience kits, which includes dishes, cutlery, bedding and fridge so you can head off straight into the Canadian great outdoors as soon as you leave the rental lot. Whatever way you decide to discover Canada make sure you can truly get to where you want and see the things you decided upon. This may mean taking less obvious modes of transport than first appear and trusting on your sense of adventure.
